Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Tra Khuc 1 Bridge Project Worth Nearly VND 2,200 Billion in Quang Ngai

Technology news

This morning (October 8, 2026), in Quảng Ngãi, the Trà Khúc 1 Bridge Project with a total investment of VND 2,199 billion officially broke ground. This is a special-grade transport infrastructure project, opening a new urban landscape for the provincial center and decisively resolving traffic congestion after 60 years of operation of the old bridge. The consortium of contractors comprising Khang Nguyên Infrastructure Construction Investment JSC – Trungnam Construction and Machinery JSC (Trungnam E&C) – Thành Phát Construction Co., Ltd. – Nam Anh Construction Equipment Technology Co., Ltd. has officially undertaken the construction of Package No. 24 – the primary construction package of the entire project.

A Special-Grade Structure and New Architectural Landmark in Quang Ngai

The project has a total route length of approximately 830 m, with the main bridge section spanning over 577 m and a deck width of 28 m, accommodating 4 motor vehicle lanes alongside landscape and pedestrian walkways. The most distinctive architectural highlight of the Trà Khúc 1 Bridge is its architectural concept named “Imprint of the Trà River”, which won first prize in the national architectural design competition. The bridge is designed as a 4-span continuous self-anchored suspension bridge, utilizing a steel-concrete composite superstructure with prestressed reinforced concrete.

Its signature visual identity consists of a pylon system featuring 3 continuous undulating steel rings, stylized from the image of the traditional water-wheel, a cultural symbol deeply rooted in the memories of the people of Quang Ngai. Beyond its role as a vital traffic artery connecting the North and South banks of the Trà River, the bridge integrates viewing platforms at the base of the pylons and an artistic lighting system, promising to become a new cultural and tourism destination for Quang Ngai urban area.

Technical Challenges at Package No. 24

According to the design documentation, Package No. 24 has an estimated value of over VND 2,043 billion. Assigned to the aforementioned contractor consortium, the construction must be completed within 18 months. This is a relatively tight schedule for a bridge project combining both bridge structures and approach roads over a total length of roughly 830 m. Specifically, the bridge section is over 577 m long and 28 m wide, featuring 4 spans of self-anchored suspension cables, steel-concrete composite girders, and prestressed reinforced concrete. The implementation process requires the contractor to exercise extremely strict control over spatial geometry, main cable sag, tensioning sequences, and the fabrication and erection of super-heavy, oversized steel structures right in the middle of the river. This poses a rigorous challenge regarding multi-disciplinary coordination capabilities: from deep foundation treatment and massive concrete pouring to precision mechanical manufacturing and the installation of specialized equipment.

Trungnam E&C Affirms Its Capability in High-Complexity Projects

As part of the contractor consortium undertaking Package 24, Trungnam E&C continues to leverage its strengths as one of Vietnam’s leading infrastructure construction contractors. With over 18 years of practical experience on major construction sites nationwide, the company possesses a team of skilled engineers and a synchronized fleet of specialized machinery. Prior to the Tra Khuc 1 Bridge project, Trungnam E&C directly left its mark on a series of large-scale, technically complex bridge projects, such as: Bach Dang Bridge, My Thuan 2 Bridge, Rach Mieu 2 Bridge, Phuoc An Bridge, and Đai Ngai 1 Bridge.

Our mastery of cable-stayed bridge construction technology, steel-composite girders, and large-river geological treatment gained from previous national key projects serves as a solid foundation for Trungnam E&C and its consortium partners to control both the schedule and quality at the Tra Khuc 1 construction site.

Concurrently with this project, in 2026, Trungnam E&C is concentrating its resources to accelerate the progress of several other key transport infrastructure projects, such as the Provincial Road 8 Overpass and the widening packages of ĐT.769, ĐT.773, etc. Winning and undertaking these major civil and structural packages continually affirms Trungnam E&C’s consistent strategy: focusing its highest resources on its core sector of high-technical transport infrastructure to promptly meet local infrastructural development demands.

Immediately following this morning’s groundbreaking ceremony, the construction crews of the contractor consortium commenced site positioning, equipment mobilization, and the preparation of the first bored piles, determined to complete the project on schedule after 18 months of construction.
