Closure of the Main Span of Phuoc An Bridge

Project

Phuoc An Bridge Project, connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai Province, has officially achieved main span closure across the Thi Vai River. This represents a particularly critical technical milestone, marking the closure of the Extradosed cable-stayed bridge structure featuring a 250m main span—affirming the execution capacity ahead of schedule and the technical prowess of the Trungnam E&C Contractor Joint Venture.

A Historic Span Closure Milestone on the Thi Vai River Megaproject

Following an intensive resource deployment operating under a continuous multi-shift schedule (“3 shifts, 4 teams”), on July 24, 2026, the main span of Phuoc An Bridge was officially closed with precision. The event marks the structural connection between the two central pylon towers, T38 and T39, forming a cross-river transit axis over the Thi Vai River between two strategic regions. Immediately after the main span closure, all 3 closure segments together with the stay-cable system consisting of 24/24 cable strands (12 strands at tower T38 and 12 strands at tower T39) were fully post-tensioned with absolute precision, satisfying all rigorous load-bearing and architectural standards.

Technical Specifications & Impressive Project Scope

Total alignment length: 4,378 m (bridge section: 3,514 m; approach roads: 864 m).

Cross-section scale: 6 traffic lanes (4 motorized lanes, 2 mixed-use lanes), deck width: 27–28 m.

Superstructure: Extradosed cable-stayed bridge with a 250 m main span.

Navigation clearance: High-clearance of 55 m, accommodating maritime vessels up to 30,000 DWT safely underneath.

Total investment capital: Nearly VND 4,900 billion.

Accelerating Execution for Final Construction Items

Trungnam E&C brings years of experience executing major infrastructure projects, including My Thuan 2 Bridge and Rach Mieu 2 Bridge. On this project, the Trungnam E&C – Trung Chinh Joint Venture is executing Contract Package No. 39 (XL-39) spanning from Pier T37 to Pier T40—the most critical and structurally complex main span segment of the entire project.

By applying advanced balanced cantilever construction methods combined with modern form travelers and strict safety-quality management, Trungnam E&C has consistently accelerated construction progress, advancing the project 6 months ahead of the original contractual schedule.

Completing the Logistics Network: Directly links the Cai Mep – Thi Vai deep-water port cluster with the Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway and the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway.

Optimizing Time & Costs: Shortens the transport distance from the Mekong Delta region and Ho Chi Minh City to the deep-water port cluster by approximately 30 km, cutting freight transport costs by 20% – 30%.

Relieving Traffic Load on National Route 51: Establishes an additional arterial transit route across the Thi Vai River, mitigating severe traffic congestion on existing National Route 51.

The stay-cable system consisting of 24/24 cable strands (12 strands at tower T38 and 12 strands at tower T39) has been fully post-tensioned.

Targeting Full Alignment Traffic Opening

Immediately following the main span closure ceremony, the Trungnam E&C Site Steering Committee directed construction units to rapidly execute the remaining finishing items: asphalt concrete deck paving, installation of lighting systems, road marking, handrails, and safety median barriers.

The entire team of engineers, technical personnel, and workers at Trungnam E&C is determined to deliver the entire project to completion safely, meeting the highest structural and aesthetic quality standards to contribute to regional infrastructure and socio-economic development.
