Phuoc An Bridge’s Cable Stay No. 1 Tensioning September 4, 2025 – According to the Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province Department of Transportation and Agricultural Projects Management Board and a consortium of contractors, the first cable stay tensioning ceremony for cable stay No. 1 took place at tower T38, part of package No. 39.
I. Phuoc An Bridge – Connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai Province
With a total investment of nearly 4.9 trillion VND, the Phuoc An Bridge project is a key transportation infrastructure project with strategic importance for the economic development of the Southern Key Economic Region. The bridge is designed to be approximately 4.3 km long with six lanes, spanning the Thi Vai River to connect Ho Chi Minh City with Dong Nai Province.
Once completed, the Phuoc An Bridge will be crucial, directly connecting the Cai Mep – Thi Vai port system, one of the largest port clusters in the country, to the Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway. This will significantly reduce the distance and time for freight transport, lower logistics costs, and promote the regional supply chain, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of the entire Southern region.
As the key contractor for Package XL-39 – the main cable-stayed bridge, Trungnam E&C has demonstrated professionalism and superior experience in managing and coordinating complex construction items.

II. Tensioning Cable Stay No. 1: A Challenging Technical Milestone
1. The Importance of Cable Stays
Cable stays are a core structural element, playing the most crucial role in the structural system of a cable-stayed bridge. Instead of relying solely on the bridge deck to bear the load, cable stays distribute the deck’s load to the cable bundles and transfer the tensile force to the main towers. The successful tensioning of the cable bundles is not just a task; it’s a confirmation of the entire selected technical process and methodology. A minor mistake could lead to safety issues, reduced lifespan, and serious damage to the structure.
2. First Cable Stay Tensioning Event at Tower T38
On September 4, 2025, with the participation of Mr. Nguyen Van Tho, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, Trungnam E&C officially proceeded with the tensioning of the first cable stay at tower T38, setting a solid foundation for the deployment of the remaining cable bundles.

3. Phuoc An Bridge Progress and Breakthrough Timeline
Thanks to the relentless efforts of Trungnam E&C and the entire contractor consortium, the project’s progress is being maintained at an impressive pace. An August 2025 progress update from the site shows:
-
Total Consortium Output: Has reached 969.484 billion VND, equivalent to 61.37% of the total contract value.
-
Trungnam E&C’s Output: Has reached 54.83% of their contracted value, with a performance exceeding the plan by 219.58% in August 2025.
