“The progress of the Chau Doc – Can Tho – Soc Trang Expressway is accelerating, with Trungnam E&C achieving a breakthrough 39% completion, finishing the girder installation of Xang Lai Hieu Bridge, overcoming the ‘sand shortage’ to bring the project to fruition on schedule.”
I. Project Overview
The Chau Doc – Can Tho – Soc Trang Expressway (Phase 1) project is a strategic expressway connecting the Mekong Delta. Upon completion, it will reduce transportation time, boost logistics, and promote regional economic development. In the Hau Giang section, Trungnam E&C is undertaking many key construction items — the overall package progress in Hau Giang reached 39% as of August 2025.
- Total length: 188.2 km, passing through 4 provinces and cities: An Giang, Can Tho, Hau Giang, and Soc Trang.
- Scale: 4 lanes, design speed 100 km/h.
- Total investment: 44,700 billion VND.
- Commencement date: November 2023.
- Completion target: Expected to complete the entire route in 2026 and put into synchronous operation in 2027.

The project is divided into 4 independent sub-projects, each managed by a local authority, ensuring coordination and specialization in implementation.
II. Rapid Progress of Bridge Construction Items.
Trungnam E&C is the leading contractor in the joint venture constructing Package No. 02 (section from Km113+200 – Km131+082) and Package No. 09 (section from Km131+300 – Km144+500) belonging to Sub-projects 3 and 4. With the spirit of “overcoming sun, winning rain” of the Trungnam E&C team, the work continues to blaze on the construction site.
Main construction items of Trungnam E&C:
Road section:
- Excavation of unsuitable soil.
- Sand embankment for service roads/temporary roads/main route.
- Weak ground treatment: CDM (Cement Deep Mixing)/PVD (prefabricated vertical drains) combined with preloading.
- Box culvert construction.
Bridge section:
- Xang Nang Mau Bridge (XNM): Currently constructing cross beams, deck slabs.
- Hoa My Bridge: Girder installation completed, currently constructing cross beams, deck slabs and bridge railings.
- Xang Lai Hieu Bridge: Girder installation completed, currently constructing cross beams, deck slabs.
- Hau Giang Ba Bridge: Girder installation completed, currently constructing cross beams, deck slabs.
- 08 other small bridges on the route:
- Muoi Bon Bridge: Currently constructing abutment bodies M1 and M2.
- Bo Bao Bridge: Currently constructing mass piles for abutment M1, abutment M2 completed.
- Bao Duoi Bridge: Deck slab completed.
- Remaining bridges: Focusing on abutment foundation construction.
- Casting concrete median barriers: Concrete median barrier casting is being carried out simultaneously with road and bridge items.

1. “Material War”: Trungnam E&C Takes the Lead in Sand Supply
The Chau Doc – Can Tho – Soc Trang Expressway project is facing one of its biggest challenges: the “sand shortage” and material supply. The huge demand for leveling sand (over 40 million m³ for the entire project) along with the untimely supply of girders and concrete are putting great pressure on the progress.
- Specific challenges:
- Soc Trang package: Sand shortage of approximately 280,000 m³. The Soc Trang Management Board (BDH ST) has requested Mr. Hong Anh (Sales Department 1) to work with the exploitation unit to increase the number of transport vessels. BDH Soc Trang has also been requested to submit weekly steel and concrete plans for the Expressway Management Board to coordinate.
- Hau Giang package: Concrete material needed for the mixing plant is 3,300 m³ and for box culverts is 1,500 m³. Sand has been exploited at 03 mines, need to maintain a production of 7,000 m³/day. BDH Hau Giang is required to submit the August material plan (steel, cement, aggregate) for the Expressway Management Board to handle. Mr. Quan (Loi Phu) is requested to urgently bring 07 Cetras vehicles to the construction site.
- Traffic opening pressure 2025: To ensure the goal of opening the entire route by the end of 2025 as directed by the Prime Minister, construction units need permission to transfer more than 1.24 million m³ of sand from the 2026 exploitation capacity to 2025.
- Trungnam E&C’s decisive solutions:
- Proactive sand source: Trungnam E&C is continuously seeking and exploiting sand from Tien River and Ba Lai River mines. In particular, we are urgently completing procedures to license the exploitation of the 3rd sand mine on Co Chien River (Ben Tre) with an estimated reserve of 600,000 m³, ready for exploitation in August 2025 to ensure material supply for the project.
- Increased transportation: Requested exploitation units to increase the number of transport vessels, and urgently bring 07 Cetras vehicles to the construction site to speed up supply.
- Close coordination: The Trungnam E&C Hau Giang and Soc Trang Management Boards are actively coordinating with the Expressway Management Board and relevant parties to coordinate material plans (steel, cement, aggregate) weekly, ensuring uninterrupted construction.
- Overcoming site clearance: Continue to closely follow the Investor to completely resolve remaining site clearance issues.

2. Chau Doc – Can Tho – Soc Trang Expressway Progress in August
- Continue preloading and monitoring ground settlement at locations where PVD has been installed.
- Complete deck slabs and railings at Hoa My, Xang Lai Hieu, Hau Giang Ba.
- Continue sand embankment for the remaining service road sections and complete box culverts for the main section.
- Complete abutment foundation construction and proceed with girder installation at small bridges with suitable ground conditions.
III. Pioneering National Infrastructure Development
Despite facing challenges in sand supply, we are committed to ensuring progress, quality, and safety, contributing to the early operation of the expressway, realizing the vision of regional connectivity, and promoting sustainable development for Vietnam.
