On January 19, 2019, in Dan Thanh commune (Duyen Hai town, Tra Vinh province), Trung Nam Group held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Trung Nam Tra Vinh Solar Power Plant project combined with high-tech agriculture. Vice Chairman of Tra Vinh Provincial People’s Committee Tran Anh Dung attended.

Mr. Do Van Kien, General Director of Trung Nam Tra Vinh Solar Power Joint Stock Company (Trungnam Tra Vinh Solar Power) said that the Trung Nam Tra Vinh solar power plant project has a scale of 171 hectares with a total capacity of 165 MWp, expected to be completed and put into operation in 2019.

With a scale of 171 hectares, including 32 Inverter stations, 1 transformer station 2×90 MVA and more than 440 thousand solar panels installed on more than 7 thousand racks. According to Mr. Kien, with this project, Trungnam Tra Vinh Solar Power accompanies Tra Vinh province in implementing the project in remote areas of the province with the goal of reducing load and ensuring electricity demand for the region.

In addition, the project will connect to the national power source and support energy security for areas that do not have access to the national grid.

“The decisive advantage of this project is the ability to connect and release the capacity of Duyen Hai Power Center to the 500/220kV Station. Thanks to this ability, the entire solar energy exploitation system of the project will immediately be brought up to 100% capacity on the national grid system.” Mr. Do Van Kien said.

Mr. Do Van Kien said that Tra Vinh is a coastal province, located between the Tien River and the Hau River. The average annual radiation measured in the coastal area of Tra Vinh province is from 1700 kWh – 1900 kWh/m2 with an average daily radiation of more than 4.9 kWh/m2. The terrain of many sand dunes in the shape of a bow helps the coastal area of Tra Vinh achieve the necessary conditions and have enough potential to develop solar energy projects.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Vice Chairman of Tra Vinh Provincial People’s Committee Tran Anh Dung said that the Prime Minister’s energy planning – renewable energy development for the period 2011-2020 (with a view to 2030) is to accelerate the development of power sources using solar energy to increase the rate of electricity output exploited from solar energy, increasing exploitation on both concentrated and dispersed sources.

“The Trung Nam Tra Vinh solar power plant project is a move to respond to the energy planning in the provinces of the Southwest. Investing in building a plant in the town not only helps protect the environment from greenhouse gas emissions, but also creates job opportunities for local residents, promotes individual economic development, contributes to socio-economic development and security for the region”, Mr. Dung said.

Trungnam Tra Vinh Solar Power’s business activities will bring benefits through tax obligations, creating jobs for more than 1,500 workers during the project construction period; at the same time, it is committed to supporting the province in developing culture and education through local volunteer activities. In addition, Mr. Dung assessed that the implementation of high-tech agriculture together with solar power plants with short-term crops will be a good model for local people to learn from experience to develop the economy.

The Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Tra Vinh province requested Trungnam Group to promptly complete investment procedures, focus on implementing the solar power plant project to ensure the progress, quality and safety of the project, and at the same time prioritize the use of local labor resources to create jobs for local people during the project implementation period.
